Julia always loved animals, both real & stuffed. The more she learned about the state of the planet, the more concerned she become about the world we are leaving behind, not only for our children, but also for animals. Stuffed animals are traditionally made from polyester, which is derived from coal and petroleum, which contributes to global warming and to crowded landfills. Julia had started to see other products made from recycled plastic – yoga pants, t-shirts, jackets, swimwear… so why not stuffed animals? And with that, Sustainimals was born.
Sustainimals’ fabric, stuffing, and thread are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. The materials have all been inspected and certified according to Global Recycled Standard (GRS) 4.0. The animals are CSPIA and ASTM safety certified, and they donate 25% of profits to the Natural Resources Defense Council.
