In our brand spotlight, we feature Abound brands who are ready for retail. This week we sat down with Amanda Brown, community outreach manager of Conscious Ink. Conscious Ink sells high end, inspiring “Manifestation” Temporary Tattoos for adults, as well as kids, is based in Bend, Oregon, and has been in business for ten years.
Robin: Why did you decide to start this business? Why this business and not a different one?
From Frank, the founder: As a transformational/life coach, I was always looking for unique ways to support my clients, and myself, in remembering the things that were most important. One day, my young daughter came home from a birthday party with a bag full of goodies, including a temporary tattoo… a cool, realistic-looking temporary tattoo, not the cheap kind I grew up with.
I applied one on myself, and soon after, I thought wouldn’t it be great to have temporary tattoos of our favorite empowering words and quotes to support us throughout our day? Hence, Conscious Ink was born.
Today, Conscious Ink features over 500 Manifestation Tattoos that serve as powerful reminders for people to shift their thoughts and modify their behaviors toward ones that serve them better in any given moment or challenge.
R: Where was the first place you started selling your product?
From Frank: I can’t quite remember the first exact store, but there were few boutiques in Southern California that were supportive and generous enough to give our entirely new concept a try. Much appreciation to them!
R: Where do you sell your product now?
From Amanda, social media manager: We sell them online via our website, Amazon, Conscious Ink retailers around the world, and in our very own retail store/headquarters in Bend, OR.
R: What’s your marketing like? Is social media an important part of your business? If so, how?
We spend a lot of time and effort on social media. We understand how much social media plays a role in so many lives. We also know it is a space to connect and engage with our fans, customers, and followers which is really important to us. It allows us to tell our story and share our mission and we are grateful for the many platforms.
R: What’s your day to day like?
A: Our day to day is quite fun! We’ve got a great team. Lots of karaoke going on throughout the day, along with impromptu dance moves.
R: Where would you love to sell your products in the future?
A: Um, well, like, everywhere! We’d truly love to see our products available on counters at a variety of places, as little pick me ups, in a similar way that candy is sold. But our products can boast zero calories!
R: Do you have a favorite product? If so, which one?
A: Since we have over 500 different Manifestation Tattoos, there’s just too many to just pick one favorite. My favorite ink changes depending on what I’m focusing on in my life.
R: What are some of the most frustrating challenges and/or moments you’ve had with your business?
A: There have been so many challenges. The one thing I’ve learned though, no matter what the challenge is, is to just keep going. And we actually have a “Keep Going” Manifestation Tattoo now, which can definitely come in handy during the rough spots!
R: What are some of your greatest achievements and victories you’ve had with your business?
A: The greatest achievement to me is to have our products actually be of service as they were originally intended when the company was just a seed of an idea.
R: What advice do you have for people who want to sell a product?
A: Do/sell something you’re passionate about! It will help you get through the challenging times.
R: What’s your favorite thing about being a business owner?
A: My favorite thing about being a business owner is interacting with our customers, hearing their stories, and learning how our products have supported them in a variety of ways.
